The Rotaracter's Day for D2590 (2013/09/15)

October in Japan is a time when people start shifting their clothes to dress warmer as summer is completely over. However, this year, the temperature seems higher than usual that I am still wearing the same shirts to work as what I wear during the summer.

Have you ever though about a "rubbish" which you produce to our earth every single day, how your city manages and what can possible you can do for a better society and nature?

Back in September 15th, Our club hosted one of the important events in D2590, an even actually held in all the districts in Japan at the same time, the "Rotaracter's Day".

The Rotary in Japan has set September 10th as the "Rotaracter's Day", and there a mainly 2 targets:
1. It is the day where ALL the Rotaracters in Japan do their activities at the same time.
2. Get more people in Japan to know what Rotaract is, and what we do.

Well, September 10th was on a weekday so we scheduled on the 15th instead. Our district, D2590, originally planned to learn about the "garbage" we through away everyday, and also clean of our town of Shin-Yokohama. However, there was a serious Typhoon heading towards Yokohama so we had no choice but cancel the clean up part.

So we decided to learn about the "garbage" we produce every single day on our Rotaracter's Day!! We have invited guests from the city service, and they have given us a great presentation.

The city of Yokohama has set a goal of "3R" for the garbage produced by the citizens:
1. Reduce
2. Reuse
3. Recycle

By challenging to these 3 targets, Yokohama is not just trying to reduce the amount of rubbish, but rather to establish a society with more efficient cycle of natural resources. This will, needless to say, require a continuous cooperation of all the citizens of Yokohama.

What is 3R? (in Japanese):

The city of Yokohama also provides guidelines in detail of how to manage your rubbish:

I'm sure there is tiny little things that each of us can make some changes in our life, and cooperate with our city for our town & environment.

We had nearly 60 people in the Hall, including Rotaracters, Rotarians, and civilians as well!! Thank you so much for your participation!!
